    Description

    "Miracle On Ice"
    United States 4  -  Soviet Union 3
1980 Winter Olympics - Lake Placid, New York
This plaque highlights what is considered the greatest sports moment of the Twentieth Century, the 1980 Olympic Hockey "Miracle On Ice". The United States team, made up of amateur and collegiate players and led by coach Herb Brooks, defeated the Soviet Union team, which was considered the best hockey team in the world. Featured as it’s centerpiece is an awesome 5 x 7 TEAM PHOTO which includes the names of each player. Also included are 2 hard-to-find and highly collectible licensed Olympic Hall Of Fame game-action trading cards. In fact, I remember the team celebrating it's incredible victory (see photo lower left) moments after sportscaster Al Michaels delivered his famous call for ABC: Do you believe in miracles? Yes!!!  The beautiful brass engraved plate captures this truely special moment in American sports history making this plaque a great gift item for any Hockey fan or a special keepsake for collectors. It is available in either a Cherry or Black Marble finish and measures 8 x 10. It comes professionally shrink-wrapped for protection and ready to hang.

    Footnote:
The victory bolstered many American citizens' feelings of national pride, which had been severely strained during the turbulent 1970s. The match against the Soviets popularized the "U-S-A! U-S-A! chant, which has been used by American supporters at many international sports competitions since 1980. Of the 20 players on the US team, 13 eventually played in the NHL. Five of them went on to play over 500 NHL games.
